National Privacy Principles
DebtorCorp is subject to the National Privacy Principles as set out in the Privacy Act 1988 which apply to personal information you may provide to us through our contact with you as well as from other third party sources including credit reporting agencies and other publicly maintained records.
Personal information is usually supplied to us via telephone and correspondence, including email, as well as other sources. This personal information may include your name, address, telephone number, and email address. At times we may also collect potentially sensitive personal information.
Clients:
The information is collected to:
• provide our clients with professional services
• advise you of development within our areas of expertise and service
• undertake marketing activities associated with the provision or enhancement of our services
• enable us to maintain our files
Debtors:
• provide our clients debt collection services
We may disclose your personal information to other professional service providers, such as solicitors, during the course of our collections work. We will use and disclose the personal information for the primary purpose for which it is collected and do not disclose that information to third parties for purposes other than those described in this Disclosure Statement.
If you provide us with personal information about another party, you must ensure that you are entitled to disclose that information to us and you should take reasonable steps to ensure the party concerned is aware of this Disclosure Statement. Without us taking any further steps, we may collect, use and disclose such information for the purposes described in this Disclosure Statement.
We will maintain the confidentiality of our client’s personal information and will not disclose that information without permission or unless compelled by law.
We will, on request and given reasonable time, provide you with access to the personal information we hold about you subject to any exemptions under the Privacy Act (such as a legal duty of confidentiality or non-disclosure. We will provide you with reasons for any refusal to supply you the information and will inform you of any exemptions relied upon under the Privacy Act.
We take reasonable steps to ensure that your personal information is accurate, complete and up to date. If any of the personal information we hold about you is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date, please contact us immediately and we will take reasonable steps to correct this information.
Your personal information may be stored in either hard copy or as electronic data in our computers or data systems. We take reasonable care to minimise the risk of misuse or loss of that information and to protect it from unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.
